Kyusho points are locations in the human body that are painful when manipulated.

Asagasumi (Morning mist); This point is found under the bottom of the chin.

Butsumetsu (Buddha’s passing) ; This is both sides of the ribs & is midway down the ribcage below the armpit. It is an area that is impossible to protect with muscle and also includes the end of the floating rib. The point should be struck in towards the centre of the body.

Daimon (Big gate); This is the middle of the shoulder joint or head of the humerus, and if struck correctly can dislocate the shoulder.

Dokkotsu (Single bone); These points are found on either side of the Adam’s apple. If you hit the opponent’s right side, it is more effective than hitting the left.

Gokoku; This point is found in the middle of the back of the hand between the middle finger and the forefinger. It is the point used when performing Omote Gyaku.

Gorin (five rings); These are five points situated around the belly button.

Hadome (ends of the teeth);You can find this point by moving to the area where the back teeth are; the muscle of the jaw is positioned here. This area also goes into the cheek tissue below the eyes.

Happa (eight leaves); This is the ear canal and also the ear drum. It can also incorporate the bone just behind the ear that protects the inner ear. Shock to the latter point can affect the recipient’s balance.

Hiryuran (flying dragon confuser); These are the eyeballs.

Hoshi (star); This point is found on the underside of the elbow. Striking here will have an effect on the opponent’s grip and is very painful as it pinches the medial and ulnar nerve against the bone.

Inazuma; This point is found to the opponent’s left side of their belly button.

Jakkin (weak muscle); This point is found on the inside of the upper arm and is situated between the bicep and tricep muscles. It is possible to damage the median and ulnar nerves when striking here. It also affects opponent’s grip.

Jinchu (Centre of a human); This point is the base of the hose and the top lip, between the nostrils. This point can be struck, but is more painful if rubbed in a lateral motion.

Jujiro (intersection); These points are the front of the shoulder just below the anterior deltoid muscle, and on top of the clavicular part of the pectoral muscle.

Kage; This is the protruberance at the bottom of the sternum called the xiphoid process.

Kaku; This is the knee and the painful points on the inside and outside of the knee joint.

Kasumi (fog); These are the temples. Due to the arteries and their proximity to the surface of the skin, this is a very dangerous area to strike.

Kenkotsu (healthy bone); Four points positioned on the skull at the front, back, left and right of the tento.

Kimon (Demon gate or Omote Kimon); This point can be found above the nipple and is the spot between the two chest muscles, the pectoral major and minor. This point should be hit towards the spine.

Kinketsu (forbidden hole); This point lies over the heart and is not protected by muscle.

Koe (voice); This point is between the centre of the thigh and the groin and is where the femur joins the hip. It is also where the femoral artery and femoral nerve begin.

Kosei (force of a tiger); This point is the groin, specifically the testicles, although this area is sensitive for women as well.

Koshitsubo (hip pot); Located at the base of the spine where it joins the hip (aka sacrum).

Kyokei (strong tendons); These points are found on the top of the foot, just above the base of the toes.

Matsu kaze (wind in the pine trees); These points are the inside ends of the clavicles.

Menbu (face); The bridge of the nose.

Murasame (village rain); The notch at the top of the sternum.

Ryufu (dragon’s wind); The Adam’s apple.

Ryumon (dragon’s gate); The space behind the clavicle or collar bone, which goes down into the body.

Sai (crush); This point is on the inside and outside of the mid-thigh.

Seitaku (star mud); The top side of the elbow joint with the thumb facing up.

Suigetsu (water moon); The solar plexus.

Tenmon (heaven’s gate); This is the ridge of bone above and below the eye sockets.

Tsuki Kage; This point is found to the right side of the opponent’s belly button.

Tsuyugasumi (drop of mist); The area of the lymph glands under the jaw line.

Uko (door of rain); This is the side of the neck (also known as the Amado) and is found level with the Adam’s apple just forward of the ear. It is close to the carotid artery, jugular vein and vagal nerve. It should be struck in towards the spine.

Ura kimon (outside devil’s gate); Point of the ribs just below the nipple and pectoral muscle.

Wakitsubo (side bowl); The hollow of the armpit.

Yaku (press); Points found in the middle of the calf muscle.

Yubi tsubo (finger healing point); Found at the base of the thumb between the thumb and forefinger.

Yugasumi (evening mist); This is the point about an inch behind the lower ear in the base of the skull.
